I’ve been asking for a Fusion wagon since 2013.

I think the Fusion is still a good car. I’m always pleasantly surprised when I drive one. It would’ve been nice to see them throw in a 8/9 speed transmission in it, but eh, the 6 speed auto is adequate.

The Fusion is a good car, a lot better than a passat if you ask me.

Supposedly, Ford dealers have requested that it be replaced by a crossover that keeps the Fusion name so as to maintain brand equity. Would be nice if they just lifted the Mondeo wagon and threw on some plastic cladding and roof rails. Call it the Fusion Active.

a good big smaller than the competition tho. I’d say interior wise is more comparable  to a 97 Accord than a 2017.

I guess so, but it’s very cheap, well equipped, and it drives nicely

Oh the accord does that too?

nevermind...

I was hard pressed to see a difference until I compared it with the current Mondeo.

The Fusion or the Passat interior vs Accord?  I’ve been in the new sedan interiors for all the major brands, they all seem pretty equal to me.

The US Fusion feels more German than the NA Passat for sure.  The Passat downgraded it’s interior for NA market while everyone else upgraded.

You could save the fusion if you can get like 100,000 or so other people to join you.

Downgrading a key product in a critical market? Who’s idea was that and how soon can we fire them ?

That’s what VW thought Americans wanted, a larger cheaper sedan. Worked out great for a couple of years, until the competition were selling higher quality interiors and improved chassis/handling   for essentially the same price. VW was being out-German by the Japanese and Americans in North America.

They did the same for the VW Passat for NA, didn’t even have a fully independent rear suspension.  Cheaper interior but a low price.

What this did was alienate the VW faithful who weren’t happy with the downgrades and lost new customers to other brands that were offer better dynamics and quality.

Because it is. The current Mondeo (Fusion) is less suited to the European market than the previous Mondeo (driving dynamics , possibly too cheap and large), but it was designed with Europe at least partially in mind. The NA Passat is not available in Europe nor would it be competitive. It’s too big and too cheap.

The current one is ancient and it’s not even sure there will be a next gen Fusion/Mondeo in Europe. The market has moved from D-segment wagons to C/D segment premium wagons (3-series) and smaller non-premium C-segment crossovers for the same price (Escape). Additionally, the wagon version of the Focus has grown enough to be a feasible family car while the Mondeo is getting a bit too big for something non-premium, so its market is drying up rapidly.

Round fog lamps are obviously too outdated to be used in a modern car.

My family rented one in England, seemed perfectly fine space- wise for four adults. I don’t know how it compares to the competition, but didn’t seem like space was a big problem.

Well I was joking, but the fog lights do seem to be the only major exterior change with the refresh.

To some extent, it is easier to make weirdly shaped foglights with LEDs compared to the more regular shapes allowed by traditional halogen bubs.

My bad.

Wasn’t sure as both old and new cars have a multitude of different shapes of foglight.

Most cases the LED DRLs are in the headlight cluster with the foglight being a halogen or xenon bulb.

You can see I was trying to refer to their other model, which should have been the Jetta.

I meant that they don’t offer IRS. Really VW? Come on, my 1996 Toyota whatever has IRS, but you can’t get it on a new Jetta despite it having ‘german engineering’. For shame.

It was for price cutting, however they didn’t last long. They updated to IRS on the previous gen Jetta mid-cycle I believe.

Here is a good article on it...

https://www.automobilemag.com/news/2014-volkswagen-jetta-gains-independent-rear-suspension-1-8t-engine-233791/

For current models, VW learned their lessen on went back to higher quality fitment.
